Adult Braces, a picture a week.

Week 12, 3 months.

What a difference a week can make! While I still have a gap between my top front teeth, it’s diminishing every day, I could notice a difference within just a few hours of getting home from the orthodontist last week. Glad to see things progressing, even if it’s slow.

Found out that insurance will cover about 75% of my corrective jaw surgery, which should be sometime in the summer. :/

I know, I missed last week. I’m sorry! It was our anniversary and I had a big project I was trying to finish up so I never got around to it.

Week 11. Had an orthodontist appointment last week and got spacers to put new brackets on my back teeth. I went back today and got said brackets put on, a new, hefty wire, and my first power chain. Fantastic!! Ugh, I couldn’t even eat lunch. :( However, I know the gap in my front teeth will close quickly because of the power chain, I can already tell it’s smaller. Curious to see just how quickly it closes!

Week 9, still not much of a difference to me. :/ Next appointment is on Tuesday. I get spacers and brackets moved to my back teeth the next week. Yay?

(Sorry for not getting the pictures up on Monday! Not sure what’s wrong with me lately.)

Forgot to post pictures yesterday, sorry! Totally slipped my mind.

Yesterday was week 8, so officially 2 months. Starting to get a little discouraged, I don’t feel like they’re moving any at all. Can anyone else tell? I have noticed that my teeth feel loose a lot of the time, so I guess that means they’re doing something. Still tough not to see progress, though.

Week 7

Had my first orthodontist appointment today. Ouch. I had braces for eight years as a teen, and never once cried. I cried today. I am 25 years old, with braces, and I cried. I had to get my wires changed today and for some reason the wire didn’t want to go in the back bracket on my top right side. So for over fifteen minutes (literally 15 minutes) they tried to force it in. I thought they were going to pull my tooth out. I started crying and they stopped for a bit to let me catch my breath (yes, I felt like an idiot), and then they finally got it. It took three people. I’m not sure how often I’ll be getting my wires changed, but I hope to goodness it’s not too often. I can’t handle that again. They said my next appointment they’ll be moving my back brackets to my molars, so maybe once I get a new bracket put on it’ll be better.

Anyway, these are my week 6 photos. I decided to do a profile shot every week too because it’s kind of hard to tell from just the front shot. Can you see a difference in my teeth yet?

Week 4. I have had the worst mouth ulcer this past week, it’s finally gone today. It was at the front part of my bottom lip, way on the bottom. Every time I smiled, chewed, brushed my teeth, or did anything it would get hung on my bracket. I won’t lie, it hurt so badly it brought tears to my eyes a few times. But thankfully that’s over.
On each side now there’s now about 1/8 inch of wire sticking out. It may not be much, but 1/4 inch total is a lot for teeth to have moved in a month I think! Still a little frustrated that things don’t look much better, but they do feel better I guess. First appointment next week!

Week 3. I can tell a bit of difference between last week but not much. Starting to get frustrated. I know it’s only been three weeks, but I was hoping for a more visible change. I remember when I got them the first (and second) time things seemed to move faster. Maybe I just think they did and they really didn’t. I don’t know. Either way I need to be patient, I haven’t even had these things a month yet.

I do think things have moved some though because my wire is starting to poke out a bit in the back. It catches on my gum every now and then, but it’s not too bad. It’s just annoying.

Teeth, week 2. I can’t really tell much of a difference yet, I imagine I won’t until I go for my first appointment on the 26th.

Braces, week 1. I promise I’ll take a better quality picture next week. Taking a picture of your own teeth is actually quite hard!
